8th annual Deep Space Exploration Society open house set for Saturday
The Deep Space Exploration Society will be hosting an open house September 16 at the Plishner Radio Telescope site five miles south of Haswell in Kiowa County.
The open house will highlight the capabilities of the 60-foot radio telescope at the site, along with offering a STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – and amateur radio event which includes optical telescopes for viewing the sky.
A pulled pork barbecue lunch will be available from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. with meal donations benefiting Kiowa County Shooting Sports and the Town of Haswell.
Hats, sunscreen, insect repellent, camp chairs, and shoes for mud are recommended.
The site is located at 9301 County Road 20.
The DSES is a Colorado based nonprofit organization dedicated to practical astronomy and space science education for students, the general public, and society members. Its major project is restoring and operating a 60-foot dish antenna for radio astronomy and amateur radio experimenting.
